Anulom Vilom Pranayama

Anulom Vilom Pranayama is a type of yogic breathing exercise that is often translated as "alternate nostril breathing." It is a practice that is believed to have a number of benefits for the body and mind, including improving respiratory function, reducing stress and anxiety, and balancing the right and left hemispheres of the brain.

To practice Anulom Vilom Pranayama, you can follow these steps:

beginning any new yoga practice.

Find a comfortable seated position with a straight back, such as in a chair or on the floor in a cross-legged position.

  1. Place your left hand on your left knee, palm facing up.

  2. Use your right hand to close off your right nostril with your thumb. Inhale slowly and deeply through your left nostril.

  3. Once you have taken a full inhalation, use your right ring finger to close off your left nostril. Exhale slowly through your right nostril.

  4. Inhale through your right nostril, then close it off with your thumb. Exhale through your left nostril.

  5. Continue this pattern of alternate nostril breathing for several minutes, maintaining a slow and steady rhythm.

It is important to keep the breath slow and smooth during Anulom Vilom Pranayama and to focus on the breath as it moves in and out of the body. You can gradually increase the duration of the practice as you become more comfortable with it. It is also a good idea to consult with a qualified yoga instructor before.
